Great Start 2W!!

Second grade is off to a great start at SES! We had our first grade-level sing and it was awesome! 2W and 2B gathered together and had a wonderful time on Fun Friday, singing, learning new songs, and spending time together! And that wasn't all!! In writing workshop we illustrated poems with colored pencils while we learned how to sharpen, store and use these tools properly in 2W! Job well done too! In math, we reviewed addends whose sums are 10 (review) and played roll and record, an all time favorite skill building activity in first and second grade... and we loved it! After adding and recording, we learned how to roll, store, and care for our classroom dice! Great job second graders! At morning meeting we practiced the Earth greeting with a new twist, as well as our song, message, and game... Boppity-Bop-Bop-Bop! Wow! That's a mouthful! In reading workshop we browsed the room a bit and made all kinds of reading discoveries! Fiction, non-fiction, Arthur books, Eric Carle, ABC books, math books, and Henry and Mudge... just to name a few!!! After the excitement of having a room full of amazing books to read, we settled in and enjoyed reading. Sometimes together, sometimes quietly, making new connections and discoveries along the way! We talked about what happens when you read and discussed what "good readers do" while reading! Reading workshop is a big part of every day in 2W... and that's just the way we like it!! We also brainstormed together about meeting times, and what needs to happen to unsure we can have productive and fruitful meetings in second grade! After brainstorming we narrowed our ideas to a short, clear, concise list of 6 rules... 6 promises we need to keep, so that all our meetings go well! Great job second graders! Like I said, we're truly off to a great start! Keep up the good work!
