Thank You Chief Gilbert and Owen Starts the Day!
What a way to start the day! Owen lead our morning meeting with the telephone game, This Land Is Your Land, and a great message with a venn diagram question... is this a "go" food, or a "whoa" food? After taking pictures of our snacks, we entered all our pictures into the diagram, and had a very thoughtful dialogue on healthy snack choices! Well done, Owen! We quickly moved on to writing letters to Chief Gilbert, who visited second grade in honor of Dr. Seuss's Birthday and read Hop on Pop to us! We also heard all about his hiking trip in Arizona! We love our guest speakers, especially Chief Gilbert, so we were happy to write letters of thanks to him for taking the time out of his busy day to spend time with us! That wasn't all for writing workshop though... friends took some time to craft their weekend stories, and three writers shared some very special stories afterward! Well done Juan, Owen, and Julienne! In math we reviewed what we've learned about reading clocks and telling time to the hour, half hour, and quarter hour, and did some prewriting for books we will make tomorrow. Our very own books, about our day, just like the one we read today called Time To...
In the story a boy sequences his daily routine using digital and analog clocks, and that's just what we will do tomorrow! Well done friends! Lola ran her first math meeting of the week and did a fantastic job! After that, we finished our day with work board, reading groups, and literacy based centers (scholastic news, ABC, math, poems, and buddy reading, just to name a few). Great day everyone! Looking forward to tomorrow (PE sneakers please)!
